With its huge forests, Picardy is undoubtedly the green lung of the north of France. Here you can breathe, take in the fresh air, take a walk or a bike ride in the royal forests of Chantilly, Compiègne, Ermenonville, Retz and Saint- Gobain. Tens of kilometres of forest cycle paths stretch out. More pastoral are the groves of Thiérache and Pays de Bray around Beauvais, where enthusiasts introduce people to landscape reading during botanical walks. At the southern tip of the region is the Vallée de la Marne and the vineyard hills of the Route du Champagne.

In order to never forget the drama played out on Picardy's soil, local people have developed the battlefield sites so that all may come to gather their thoughts and so that all may understand what happened. Not only battlefields, but also cemeteries and various memorials can now be visited by following different excursion circuits. Picardy shares a common history with Britain for it was where the Somme battle took place.
