With a British ornithologist, visit the breeding grounds of Spoonbill, Little and Cattle Egret, Night Heron and White Stork Wednesday the 14th Juin 2017
The Parc du Marquenterre – just an hour from Calais and one of northern France's key birdwatching sites has created a personalised one-day tour for British birdwatchers on Wednesday the 14th June 2017, offering close and personal sightings of many of the region's specialities in spring 2017.
A full day tour, accompanied by a British ornithologist, in and around the Somme Bay, taking in some of the region’s premier birding sites. Migrants have arrived back from their wintering grounds to breed and many of them are rare, or even absent, from the UK. Our tour begins at the Marquenterre nature reserve which with a walk around this superb site. The reserve will open before the official opening times especially for us! Spoonbill, Little and Cattle Egret, Night Heron and White Stork all breed here. Waders and passerines are also present in good numbers and we should also find Crested Tit and perhaps even Black Woodpecker!
Privatised access to the Parc du Marquenterre is included.
After a picnic composed of regional specialties we will head to the marshes and polders to the south of the estuary to look for breeding Bluethroat, Icterine and Savi’s Warbler and Red-backed Shrike. The varied habitat in this part of the region also plays host to a large diversity of waders and other migrants.
